Requirements

  • Complete understanding of log loading/handling equipment including Wagner (one-bite) log loader, Volvo wheel loader, crane, chipper, and on-site forklifts
  • Working knowledge of log yard layout, proper log sorting, log grading, green chain, and lumber package storage
  • At least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • At least 1 year experience operating earth-moving, crane, or other heavy equipment for moving material, loading, or unloading
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Be able to lift 50 lbs. without assistance
  • Be able to bend and squat while performing duties
  • Be comfortable climbing ladders, conveyors, working at heights, and on steel grating up to 100 ft
  • Stay in seated position at approximate 30-degree angle for long periods (up to four hours) without a break
  • Ability to be bounced around by crane vibration
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work from high elevations
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 3-5 years' experience operating earth-moving, crane, or other heavy equipment for moving material, loading, or unloading
  • At least 1 year of experience inspecting material moving equipment, crane operation in construction, manufacturing, or repair settings, performing safety inspections
  • OSHA 10 General Industry Certification and ability to pass Enviva-generated hazard recognition test
  • High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload bundles from trucks using portal crane
  • Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms and lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions and damage
  • Move levers (with both hands), depress foot pedals (with both feet), and turn dials to operate crane or other moving equipment for lifting, moving, and placing loads
  • Monitor logs being fed into the debarker drum and notify chipper operator of any problems (e.g., hung up logs, jams)
  • Escalate visual issues and remove eject in-feed logs for embedded rocks or other saw-damaging debris
  • Lubricate crane parts in adherence with manufacturer and company recommendations
  • Maintain contact with Area Mill Manager and coworkers
  • General housekeeping during downtime including shoveling, sweeping, and hosing to clean area
  • Adhere to all plant environmental, health, and safety guidelines, policies, and practices
