Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, including all regulatory and FMS policy requirements
  • Knowledge in current practices related to principles and techniques of dialysis
  • Participation in all scheduled in-services
  • Completion of Nurse’s Technical Training Program/Water Quality Facility
  • Ability to supervise and manage daily clinical operations, staff, and patient care in dialysis setting
  • Compliance with OSHA programs and state/federal regulations

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day guidance, support, and direction to direct patient care staff, including informal and formal feedback
  • Participate in department staffing, hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions; recommend and initiate as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with all company, facility procedures, policies, and state/federal regulations
  • Approve or disapprove time or personnel schedule changes in absence of Facility Administrator
  • Participate in patient care plan meetings
  • Train and orient staff as necessary
  • Routinely observe and guide direct patient care staff for appropriate technique and adherence to policies/procedures
  • Promote and assist with OSHA compliance for safe working environment
  • Maintain overall shift operation in safe, efficient, effective manner
  • Conduct staff meetings monthly or as needed with Facility Administrator
  • Meet routinely with Facility Administrator to discuss personnel and patient care issues
  • Supervise all documentation of patient information
  • Coordinate Charge Nurse duties with Staff RNs in relief charge capacity
  • Assess daily patient care needs and develop/distribute assignments
  • Assume primary responsibility in emergency situations
  • Assess patient needs, respond to dialysis treatments, communicate with physician, and implement care/treatment changes
  • Monitor and supervise patient care activity during dialysis; assist as necessary
  • Collaborate with direct patient care team for patient care decisions
  • Continuously monitor patient’s condition for dialysis-related problems/complications
  • Administer medications per physician’s orders
  • Act as subject matter expert and resource for staff
  • Supervise and participate in short- and long-term care plans
  • Admit new patients per facility procedure
  • Educate patients and families on End Stage Renal Disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medication
  • Supervise safe/effective use of equipment; operate dialysis/emergency equipment when needed
  • Perform testing/verification and initial checklists for start-up/shut-down procedures
  • Assist with special projects, interviewing potential staff, and promoting efficient use of medical supplies
  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings or activities
