Requirements

  • Functions as the hemodialysis team leader in chronic hemodialysis care and treatment
  • Provides day-to-day direction and supervision to assigned direct patient care staff
  • Communicates with physicians and healthcare team to interpret, adjust, and complete patient care plans
  • Ensures safe, effective patient care delivery in compliance with facility procedures, company standards, state, and federal regulations
  • Supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, customer service philosophy, and Compliance Program
  • Maintains knowledge of current dialysis principles and techniques through scheduled in-services
  • Participates in department staffing, hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions
  • Approves or disapproves time or personnel schedule changes in Clinical Manager's absence, ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Supervises all documentation of patient information
  • Coordinates Charge Nurse duties with Staff RNs acting in relief charge capacity

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day guidance, support, and direction to direct patient care staff, including informal and formal feedback for performance evaluations
  • Recommend and initiate disciplinary actions as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with all company, facility, state, and federal procedures and policies, especially in clinics with over 100 patients
  • Participate in patient care plan meetings
  • Train and orient staff as necessary; routinely observe and guide staff for technique and policy adherence
  • Promote and assist with OSHA compliance for a safe working environment
  • Maintain overall shift operation safely, efficiently, and effectively
  • Conduct staff meetings monthly or as needed with Clinical Manager to inform staff of changes
  • Meet routinely with Clinical Manager to discuss personnel, patient care status, issues, and information
  • Assess daily patient care needs and develop/distribute assignments appropriately
  • Assume primary responsibility in emergency situations; assess patient needs, respond to dialysis treatments, and communicate with physicians
  • Implement changes in patient care/treatment as directed; monitor and supervise all patient care activity during dialysis
  • Collaborate with direct patient care team for patient care decisions; continuously monitor patient conditions for problems/complications
  • Administer medications per physician's orders
  • Act as subject matter expert and resource for staff
  • Supervise and participate in short- and long-term care plans
  • Admit new patients per facility procedure
  • Ensure patient and family education on End Stage Renal Disease, dialysis, diet, and medication
  • Supervise safe and effective use of all direct patient care equipment; operate dialysis and emergency equipment when needed
  • Perform required testing, verification, and initial checklists for start-up and shut-down procedures per Technical Services Manual
