Requirements

High school diploma/GED/equivalent degree, plus 1 year of tractor trailer driving experience preferred (tractor trailer driving school completion accepted instead of or in addition to high school diploma)
Ability to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records
Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License
Must be insurable to operate a vehicle as a condition of initial and continued employment
Knowledge of DOT regulations, Hazmat guidelines, safe lifting and delivery practices
Skill in driving over long distances, over a variety of terrains and in varying weather conditions, communicating with customers, solving problems, delivering

Responsibilities

Safely transports product from the warehouse to customer location and ensures timely delivery according to assigned route
Unloads product from trailer by hand or using hand cart down ramps, stairs, or docks in all weather conditions and places in designated customer storage areas according to customer specifications and company standards (e.g., handling per preferred methods, scanning product)
Picks up, loads, and unloads damaged goods and customer returns, and transports back to SYGMA warehouse
Completes all paperwork accurately and on time according to company and governmental guidelines (e.g., DOT logs, inspections, maintenance reports, pre/post-trip reports, invoices, reporting damages/shortages)
Ensures food safety protocols are met (e.g., maintains proper temperatures, inspects for damages, prevents cross-contamination) and maintains sanitary conditions in tractor, trailer, warehouse, and yard
Follows preferred work methods, advises management of unsafe conditions
Maintains and safely operates assigned equipment (e.g., hand cart, pallets, load bars, SLS unit, PPE)
Develops good customer relationships through excellent, courteous service and clear communication
Communicates with management regarding route deviations, trailer/loading issues, customer/product issues
Safely transports backhaul and line haul products, ensuring correctness and timely delivery per standards
Works assigned schedule (including outside usual hours as needed), exhibits regular and predictable attendance
Other duties as assigned by management
