Requirements

High school diploma or GED (preferred)
One year of prior retail or related experience (preferred)
Good verbal communication skills; ability to interact politely and effectively with customers
Good customer service and organizational skills; detail-oriented
Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills
Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently
Ability to work in a typical retail store environment (varied temperatures), outside weather conditions, with low to moderate noise levels
Travel requirements vary by assignment

Responsibilities

Operate cash register and electronic scanner to itemize and total customer purchases; handle a variety of products including dry groceries, frozen foods, dairy, produce, poultry, fish, beef, and pork
Process financial transactions including cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, and coupons accurately per company policy
Weigh and carefully bag customer purchases
Understand and efficiently operate check-stand equipment (register, scanner, scale, belts)
Perform front-end duties such as merchandising check-stand (newspapers, periodicals, candy, etc.)
Ensure proper use of product identification and PLUs; report errors in pricing or signage
Maintain understanding of current store programs and product locations
Communicate company programs (loyalty program, scans, etc.), in-store specials, and coupons to customers; model high standards of service
Comply with company policies on security, cash handling/cash drawer accounting, product handling (damaged/spoiled), and sale of alcohol/tobacco products
Maintain a clean and well-stocked department; ensure compliance with safety and sanitation procedures
Assist with stocking items as needed
Follow all PPE and safety guidelines
Follow all food safety and cleaning expectations
Follow guest experience guidelines
May be assigned tasks in other departments based on customer experience needs
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed
