One year of prior retail or related experience (preferred)
Good verbal communication skills; ability to interact politely and effectively with customers
Good customer service and organizational skills; detail-oriented
Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills
Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently
Ability to work in a typical retail store environment (varied temperatures), outside weather conditions, with low to moderate noise levels
Responsibilities
Operate cash register and electronic scanner to itemize and total customer purchases; handle a variety of products (dry groceries, frozen foods, dairy, produce, poultry, fish, beef, pork)
Process financial transactions (cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, coupons) accurately per company policy
Weigh and carefully bag customer purchases
Understand and efficiently operate check-stand equipment (register, scanner, scale, belts)
Perform front-end duties such as merchandising check-stand (newspapers, periodicals, candy, etc.)
Ensure proper use of product identification and PLUs; report pricing or signage errors
Maintain understanding of store programs, product locations, in-store specials, and coupons; communicate to customers and model high service standards
Comply with company policies on security, cash handling, product handling (damaged/spoiled), alcohol/tobacco sales
Maintain clean and well-stocked department; comply with safety, sanitation, PPE, food safety, and cleaning standards
Assist with stocking items as needed
Follow guest experience guidelines
Perform tasks in other departments based on customer needs; additional responsibilities as assigned
