Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • One year of prior retail or related experience (preferred)
  • Good verbal communication skills; ability to interact politely and effectively with customers
  • Good customer service and organizational skills; detail-oriented
  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently
  • Ability to work in a typical retail store environment (varied temperatures), outside weather conditions, with low to moderate noise levels

Responsibilities

  • Operate cash register and electronic scanner to itemize and total customer purchases; handle a variety of products (dry groceries, frozen foods, dairy, produce, poultry, fish, beef, pork)
  • Process financial transactions (cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, coupons) accurately per company policy
  • Weigh and carefully bag customer purchases
  • Understand and efficiently operate check-stand equipment (register, scanner, scale, belts)
  • Perform front-end duties such as merchandising check-stand (newspapers, periodicals, candy, etc.)
  • Ensure proper use of product identification and PLUs; report pricing or signage errors
  • Maintain understanding of store programs, product locations, in-store specials, and coupons; communicate to customers and model high service standards
  • Comply with company policies on security, cash handling, product handling (damaged/spoiled), alcohol/tobacco sales
  • Maintain clean and well-stocked department; comply with safety, sanitation, PPE, food safety, and cleaning standards
  • Assist with stocking items as needed
  • Follow guest experience guidelines
  • Perform tasks in other departments based on customer needs; additional responsibilities as assigned
