Responsibilities

  • Receiving prescriptions from patients, following provincial legal/regulatory conditions and assessing the prescription for completeness (e.g., Name, Address, DOB, Allergies, 3rd Party Information, Special Requests, Prescriber, Generic/Brand, Prioritizing with 21st Century Guidelines)
  • Performing computer functions as directed by the Pharmacist (e.g., Data Entry, Price Check, Patient Information Entry/Update, interpreting/processing written prescriptions including Latin abbreviations, drug name recognition, dosage calculations, Refills, Report Generation, Patient Profile checks)
  • Filling prescriptions under the Pharmacist’s supervision (e.g., selecting products, performing accuracy program including 7 point, Visual and DIN checks, counting/measuring/preparing products, labeling, organizing for checking, approvals for verbal refills, using 'STOP' forms, facilitating Cognitive Services)
  • Maintaining Inventory Control (e.g., assisting with stock levels, checking/pulling expired medications monthly, cleaning Will Call Bin, writing returns, ordering drugs/supplies using preferred wholesaler like Kohl and Frisch, operating Telxon gun, checking off/pricing/putting away orders, zoning shelves, 'X-ing' opened bottles, interchangeable drug knowledge, selecting key brands/preferred generics)
  • General Housekeeping (e.g., stocking prescription filling supplies like vials/labels/bags, keeping dispensary clean/organized/neat, maintaining clean/safe work environment including dishes/garbage, cleaning packaging/dispensing equipment, computer, fax machine)
  • Clerical Organization (e.g., filing prescriptions/invoices/reports/correspondence/memos, completing administrative support like journals, accounts receivable, Aged Trial Balance)
  • Assisting with OTC Operations (e.g., ordering, stocking, cashier duties as assigned by OTC Manager/Pharmacist)
