Position Overview

Symbotic is seeking a highly motivated Buyer to join our dynamic Supply Chain team, with a strong focus on steel and metal procurement. The ideal candidate will bring tactical buying experience in steel, hardware, or related metals, along with a solid understanding of sourcing best practices and supply base optimization. Knowledge of the CRU index and regional steel markets is highly preferred to support competitive pricing strategies. Familiarity with key manufacturing processes—such as fabrication, machining, painting, and roll forming. This role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to work independently, effective cross-functional collaboration, and a proactive approach to thrive in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.

What We Do

Our global sourcing, procurement, and third-party supplier team develop innovative category management strategies in collaboration with the business. The team focuses on strategic third-party partner agreements and helps support supplier relationship management, commercial and financial pricing models for overall supplier performance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end procurement process for steel components, ensuring engineering and quality standards are met.
  • Collaborate with Site Operations, Logistics, Engineering, Planning, and other departments to understand project requirements and generate purchase orders (POs) efficiently in SAP.
  • Maintain accurate purchase item data and planning parameters within the ERP system.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to identify and mitigate business risks related to delivery, quality, cost, and performance.
  • Review and analyze procurement data to identify cost-saving opportunities through vendor consolidation, market analysis, and aligning scopes with the appropriate suppliers.
  • Drive supplier cost initiatives and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Partner with the supplier follow-up team to track and report on expedited and late material orders; resolve material shortages and problematic parts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Accounting, Receiving, Production Planning, etc.) to resolve purchasing issues such as quality nonconformance, design changes, material scheduling, and price disputes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Strategic Sourcing or Procurement, with strong proficiency in SAP for PR/PO generation, procurement modules, and planning tools.
  • Proven experience as a tactical buyer in steel, hardware, or metals.
  • Knowledge of the CRU index and its application in monitoring steel pricing trends.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods such as fabrication, machining, painting, and roll forming.
  • Ability to leverage regional steel markets to ensure competitive pricing across the owned product categories.
  • Experience managing procurement timelines and engineering change processes.
  • Strong supplier management, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform well under pressure.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with PLM tools (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter) and Microsoft SharePoint is a plus.

Our Environment

  • Up to 10% of travel may be required.
  • Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
