Requirements

Candidates must possess an MS in Computer Science or a related field with 6 years of relevant work experience, or a BS/BA with 8 years of experience in Engineering, Machine Learning, or AI. Experience building large-scale distributed applications, expertise in an OO language like Scala or Java, and familiarity with NoSQL databases and key-value stores such as MongoDB or Redis are essential. A generalist mindset with a willingness to learn new skills is required. Experience with cloud services, particularly GCP, big data pipelines (Hadoop, Spark), AI applied research, industrial recommendation systems, Large Language Models (LLMs), and prompt engineering are considered a plus.

Responsibilities

The Machine Learning Engineer will influence the future of eBay's recommender systems and their technological evolution. They will work with large, unique datasets of unstructured multimodal data representing eBay's inventory and user base. Responsibilities include developing and deploying state-of-the-art AI models to production that directly impact eBay buyers, deploying big data technology and large-scale data pipelines, and driving marketplace GMB and advertising revenue through organic and sponsored recommendations.
