Requirements

  • Basic understanding of client/patient treatment plans
  • Ability to monitor and document client/patient behavior
  • Knowledge of vital signs monitoring, signs/symptoms of withdrawal, and when to escalate to medical intervention for critical symptoms
  • Appropriate training certifications/permissions for overseeing medication administration (as permitted)
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of medications, document self-administration or staff administration, monitor OTC medications, inventory/storage, blood glucose levels, and equipment per guidelines
  • Adherence to all medication policies, storage, destruction, and reporting of errors/discrepancies
  • For Illinois only: Ability to serve in on-call for shift coverage

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and supportive care, general oversight of day-to-day activities, redirection of clients/patients
  • Monitor health (vital signs), intervene/respond to crises, communicate with treatment team
  • Facilitate group education/structured activities and transport clients/patients as needed
  • Provide safe, therapeutic, supportive environment
  • For Residential Facility and Withdrawal Management: Admit, supervise, monitor, transfer, discharge clients/patients; screen/monitor for withdrawal signs/symptoms
  • Obtain/record vital signs and medical symptoms per policy or as indicated
  • Oversee medication administration per policy/procedure; work with nursing staff; monitor self-administration (with physician orders for OTC/prescription)
  • For Residential Care Facility (RCF): Assist with personal care (grooming, bathing, dressing, etc.)
  • Conduct client/patient supervision checks per policy/procedure or safety plan
