Position Overview

Confluent is revolutionizing data streaming, enabling companies to react faster, build smarter, and deliver dynamic experiences. We are seeking talented Software Engineers to join our Traffic team, responsible for building and managing the networking fabric of Confluent Cloud. This is a strategic area focused on the performance, security, reliability, and cost optimization of all data traffic within Confluent Cloud.

We are looking for individuals passionate about building large-scale distributed systems, with a particular interest in network data planes for cloud-based containerized workloads. If you are driven by optimizing network performance, scale, and cost, and enjoy building robust software, this role is for you.

What You Will Do

• Build Mission-Critical Systems: Develop the software that powers Confluent Cloud's network data plane.
• Design, Develop, and Operationalize: Create high-performance, scalable, reliable, and resilient systems.
• Drive Project Execution: Independently lead and deliver complex software projects from conception to production, prioritizing quality.
• Leverage Open Source: Build upon and contribute to open-source software to drive business impact.
• Troubleshoot and Optimize: Address issues and enhance operations within a complex technical stack spanning multiple public clouds, microservices, containers, and virtualization.

What You Will Bring

• Education/Experience: BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Cloud Infrastructure/Networking: 3+ years of relevant experience in cloud infrastructure or cloud networking.
• Distributed Systems: Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development.
• Large-Scale Systems: Proven experience building and operating large-scale systems.
• Systems Knowledge: Solid understanding of systems at a fundamental level (disk, network, operating systems, etc.).
• Teamwork & Initiative: A self-starter with the ability to work effectively within a team.
• Programming Proficiency: Fluency in C++, Go, Python, or other statically typed languages.
• Public Cloud Experience: Experience or knowledge with public clouds (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
