Knowledge of auditing in the financial services industry and basic accounting principles with related work experience
Thorough understanding of project management principles in relation to people, systems, and processes
Interest and aptitude for identifying problems of varying complexity and developing sound, actionable solutions within constraints
Analytical and organizational skills to conduct audits
Professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CISA, CIA, ACA, ACCA) are beneficial
Previous internal audit management experience preferred
Strong technical understanding of products, services, or regulations in the financial services industry

Responsibilities

Providing strategic thought leadership in designing an audit coverage strategy over all aspects of the Specialist's area(s) of expertise
Drafting board reporting at the legal entity and corporate levels
Interacting with global regulators to articulate Audit’s view and ongoing coverage and assessment of business processes and activities
Functioning in various roles on audit engagements, including subject matter expert, consulting, or oversight based on team needs
Monitoring regulatory updates and providing guidance to the team on impact of changes, including adjustments to audit plan and coverage
Interacting, partnering, and presenting to Senior and Executive Management to understand risks, business changes, and significant events affecting the business and/or audit plan
Participating in meetings with business units, Senior, and Executive Management to discuss audit results
Utilizing understanding of various Corporate units to ensure operations, services, and systems have proper audit controls in place (design of the control environment)
Developing the audit team's technical understanding
Driving and supporting change in the Audit Services team in line with the vision and strategy
Participating in audit engagements, including planning, reviewing/challenging project scope, providing guidance on testing, and drafting/reviewing audit reports and board materials
Assisting in recruiting, retention, and development of the audit team
Providing input to improve operational efficiency and/or enhance the design or operating effectiveness of Northern Trust’s internal control environment
