Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of Relevant Mainframe Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT related field (Preferred)
  • Mainframe experience (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Implement, customize, test, and maintain database systems within a production environment
  • Continue to implement and learn IMS database concepts with occasional assistance from more experienced IMS DBA team members and guidance from the IMS DBA Team Lead
  • Define databases and PSBs, complete IMS training courses, and apply IMS training knowledge to implementation and testing of IMS database software, utilities, and fixes in a test (sandbox) environment before production rollout
  • Take initiative to implement, test, and resolve IMS-related issues in the sandbox environment
  • Continue to work with assigned mentors to learn and implement advanced database administration tasks (such as resizing databases, resolving fragmentation, testing compression, implementing new segments, etc.)
  • Implement assigned projects, with migration plans when required, and verify successful implementation
  • Develop basic database configurations with occasional assistance, by creating database objects per specified business requirements (such as expanding database sizing, defining new clients or removing obsolete clients, reducing DASD usage by implementing compression routines, etc.)
  • Work with application developers to assist with issue resolution and to ensure best practices are applied to mitigate potential impacts to user groups and other database configurations
  • Make suggestions to Application Developers regarding processing options and copybook requests, when needed
  • Work closely with the Application Teams while performing troubleshooting to determine the source of application failures. Assist in the development of solutions to minimize the potential of future application failures
  • Work with IMS Technical Support to obtain information for IMS-related issues, along with testing of potential solutions
  • Provide support for scheduled database backup tasks, monitoring tasks, PSB migration tasks, and other IMS DBA jobs executing by CA7-schedules
  • Recommend and implement automation processes to minimize routine tasks, where possible
  • Perform database status monitoring
