The Associate Curator and Head of Media, Technology, and Culture must have curatorial expertise in contemporary art practices at the intersection of culture, media, and emerging technologies. They should possess a collaborative, cross-functional approach and be able to manage a department and its budget. Experience in leading the care, research, presentation, and interpretation of media arts, including video, electronic image disciplines, film-related screenings, time-based animated art forms, technology-driven performance art, and sound, is essential. The role requires building and maintaining relationships with artists, technologists, dealers, collectors, critics, scholars, and museum colleagues, as well as engaging with local and international arts and technology communities. A strong understanding of fundraising and public relations efforts is also necessary.
The Associate Curator and Head of Media, Technology, and Culture will shape and advance the Museum's engagement with contemporary art practices through acquisitions, exhibitions, and publications, focusing on innovation and impact. They will lead the care, research, presentation, and interpretation of the Museum's media arts collections and develop these collections further. This role involves initiating and organizing exhibition projects, collaborating with Education and Public Engagement to develop complementary programs, and guiding department staff and interns. Responsibilities also include managing department and project operating budgets, collaborating with internal teams like IT and AV to support technological infrastructure, and contributing to fundraising and public relations efforts to support Media Arts programs and promote the Museum's work.
