Completed one to two years of graduate education with a focus on veterinary training
Interest in clinical veterinary medicine, preventative medicine, and/or research
Enrolled in a veterinary program during the Spring term preceding internship
At least 18 years of age
Authorized to work in the U.S
Successfully pass a background check and drug screen
Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills
Responsibilities
Work closely with ARS clinical veterinarians and technicians on daily tasks including treatment of clinical cases, study related support, and ensuring animal welfare
Provide support to local research efforts through animal husbandry, necropsy support, sample acquisition, handling, and submission
Aid in development of training programs
Participate in protocol review/writing and IACUC attendance
Meet with scientists in VMRD to learn basic study design and biometrics
Learn regulations involved with using animals in research, including the Animal Welfare Act, IACUC, and CFR part 21
