Requirements

  • Four-year college degree in business or related field, or equivalent field experience
  • Minimum 7 years category management experience
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Experience in merchandising, procurement, and/or category management of Produce
  • Experience in the Food Service or Food Manufacturing industries strongly preferred
  • Ability to operate successfully within a matrix organization, working effectively with multiple groups
  • Ability to work in a team setting, drive organizational transformations, and support change

Responsibilities

  • Own implementation plan for Area produce category and operational strategies customized for multiple Distribution Centers, ensuring alignment with overall US Foods category strategy, goals, and Area needs
  • Review assigned Area product assortment, gauge product penetration, note slow or dead products and growth opportunities, and drive profitable sales growth within assigned categories
  • Ensure Area product assortment aligns with US Foods category strategy, reduce product duplication, and meet all local customer needs in line with national strategies
  • Gather local market data (including trends) for multiple DCs from culinary team, sales staff, and vendor partners; report new product opportunities and competitor data
  • Finalize Area assortment, core complement, and exception SKUs; ensure weekly produce communication with the sales team
  • Implement produce strategy with leadership, ensure quality objectives are met, work with corporate team on delayed trucks and shorted items, and communicate market/Area needs to corporate strategy
  • Communicate issues to sellers and customers ahead of arrival with alternatives
  • Facilitate product training and new product introductions with DSS, Specialists, and sales staff, ensuring alignment with USF strategy
  • Work closely with the culinary team on planning meetings to identify accounts, categories, and opportunities
  • Support and facilitate FSQA inquiries for the assigned Area, working with Region team on vendor issues
  • Support major Area-specific account bids through analysis, coordinate customer on-boarding, and keep sales staff informed of category strategy
  • Work with QAs, replenishment, and Logistics to maintain quality, on-time delivery, and service levels; manage local fill-in vendors for customer satisfaction
  • Track critical inbound product with logistics and resolve local issues
  • Work with operations Inventory Control and QA to identify overstock and set plans to sell product quickly, at a discount if needed
  • Supervise Area and Market Quality Assurance Coordinators and Supervisors
  • Support and execute US Foods produce category strategy across the defined Area, recommend assortment changes, support local vendor relationships, work with Area sales leaders to drive key account development, own produce assortment updates, informational inquiries, and delivery of produce goals
