Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
Considerable knowledge to perform a broad range of tasks under limited supervision in dialysis modalities including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, ultrafiltration, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), and Apheresis
Ability to supervise and direct Patient Care Technicians and clerical staff
Ability to provide direction and education to ICU staff for CRRT
High-level thinking skills to adjust patient schedules based on labs, MD orders, or patient assessments
Understanding of dialysis/apheresis machine safety tests, alarm tests, equipment calibration, dialysate testing, functional testing, and internal/external disinfection
Participation in QAI activities, staff meetings, training, and orientation

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care in multiple modalities including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, ultrafiltration, continuous renal replacement therapy, and Apheresis
Assess patients’ responses to treatment, make appropriate adjustments/modifications to the treatment plan, and communicate problems/concerns to the Inpatient Program Manager, physician, hospital primary nurse, and others
Deliver safe, effective care in a timely and efficient manner
Give organized, concise shift reports and apply high-level thinking to shift patient schedules for critical patients
Implement, administer, monitor, and document patient responses to prescribed intradialytic transfusions, notifying physician and blood supplier of adverse reactions
Collaborate and communicate with physicians, healthcare team members, FMS facility nursing staff, and hospital personnel to interpret, adjust, and coordinate daily patient care plans
Accurately document all treatment information in the individual patient record (ACES) and hospital record
Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surfaces, chairs, equipment, and surrounding areas between treatments
Perform all tasks necessary for preparation for dialysis treatment, including pre-treatment machine alarm testing and, if applicable, initiating Solution Delivery System
Operate related equipment safely, provide minor troubleshooting, and utilize supplies efficiently to prevent waste
Conduct and document dialysis/apheresis machine safety tests, equipment calibration, dialysate testing, and comply with documentation/notification standards
Act as a subject matter expert to hospital staff for dialysis-related patient/equipment complications
Report all new or unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the inpatient manager and others per Adverse Event Report requirements
