Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Dialysis or Critical Care experience preferred
  • Entry-level designation into Clinical Advancement Program (CAP RN 1)
  • Ability to complete requirements to advance to next Inpatient CAP level within 24 months from hire
  • Performs duties under direction of Program Manager and guidance from Educator, Preceptor, or higher-level CAP RN for first 6 months

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate clinically competent care including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
  • Perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre-, during, and post-treatment; document in medical record; adjust treatment plan as indicated; notify manager, physician, primary nurse, etc
  • Recognize and report variations from normal patient status; collaborate with health team members
  • Assess daily patient care needs and collaborate with direct and ancillary staff
  • Direct and provide safe, effective patient care for assigned patients across modality-specific treatments
  • Initiate and coordinate communication with FKC/Non-FKC dialysis providers and hospital personnel for continuity of care
  • Administer medications as prescribed per contractual agreement
  • Ensure nephrology physician orders are received and entered in medical record; enter all treatment data accurately and timely
  • Implement, administer, monitor, and document intradialytic transfusions; notify of adverse reactions
  • Familiarize with and initiate emergency response measures per company and contracted provider policies
  • Delegate tasks to direct patient care staff (e.g., LVN/LPNs, PCTs); monitor for adherence to policies
  • Promote infection control, equipment, and environmental safety
  • Assess, collaborate, and document patient/family learning needs; provide education; instruct hospital staff on renal replacement and apheresis therapies
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to update nursing assessment and plan of care
  • Initiate, document, and complete QAI activities including monthly reports
  • Participate in decision-making, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement activities
  • Serve as a resource for the health care team
