Requirements

  • Ability to co-teach four 50-minute ELA lessons to groups of approximately 25-30 students
  • Availability for Saturdays 9:00am-4:00pm (including ~6 standard hours on-site and up to 2 flex hours weekly for prep, feedback, etc.)
  • Commitment to specific dates: For 9th grade - orientation 2/28, academy 3/14 to 5/9; for 10th grade - orientation 1/24, academy 1/31 to 5/9
  • Proficiency in navigating instructional technologies (Brightspace, Nearpod, GSuit, Zoom chat) in a blended learning environment
  • In-person availability at UC Law campus in San Francisco
  • Passion for educating motivated high school students with a student-centered approach

Responsibilities

  • Co-teach alongside Instructors to facilitate classroom instruction, teach mini-lessons, organize small group and one-on-one instruction, and provide Scholar support (no grading responsibilities)
  • Follow provided lesson plans, meet lesson objectives, abide by criteria for rigorous instruction and student engagement, hold high expectations, use protocols for student-driven discussion/group work, and promote depth of understanding via questioning
  • Read, internalize, and practice all lesson plans and materials prior to teaching; implement adjustments to pacing/activities based on student needs; reflect on notes from Lead Instructors and brainstorm strategies with peers
  • Project an energetic, engaging, and approachable persona to promote students’ connection to the content and foster positive classroom culture
