Requirements

  • Deep understanding of the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act, Commission procedures, and claim management best practices
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
  • 3+ years of experience as a Workers’ Compensation Paralegal or similar experience in a high-volume Workers’ Compensation practice preferred
  • ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple cases, deadlines, and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive client relationships
  • High attention to detail and ability to maintain organized case records and documents
  • Proficiency in legal case management software, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and e-filing systems

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage a high volume of Illinois workers’ compensation claims from intake through resolution, maintaining accurate files, monitoring deadlines, and ensuring compliance with all Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) requirements
  • Serve as a primary contact for clients, providing updates on claim status, explaining the claims process, and addressing client questions with empathy and professionalism
  • Draft and prepare claim-related documents including applications for adjustment of claim, medical summaries, settlement contracts, correspondence, and status reports
  • File necessary documents to open a claim with the commission
  • Collect, organize, and summarize medical records, identifying key information related to causation, treatment, and permanent partial disability
  • Communicate with insurance adjusters, nurse case managers, employers, and opposing counsel to exchange information, coordinate benefits, and move claims forward efficiently
  • Coordinate medical evaluations, client appointments, and settlement conferences, maintaining accurate calendars for attorneys and ensuring timely completion of all claim-related tasks
  • Assist attorneys in preparing settlement demands, calculating benefits, and drafting settlement contracts for Commission approval
  • Ensure all work aligns with Illinois Workers’ Compensation laws, Commission rules, and firm protocols
