Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (required for Level I or willing to obtain within first 6 months; Level II: with 1-year wind turbine experience or Associate’s degree + 6 months turbine experience; Level III: with 2 years turbine experience or Associate’s degree + 2 years turbine experience)
  • Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet and work safely outside nacelle/nosecone at top of turbine and in confined spaces
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge; able to work with electrical wires and differentiate color-coded wires
  • Able to safely work in wide range of adverse climates and environments
  • Able to travel as required
  • Knowledge of and ability to use various hand tools
  • Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams (preferred for Level I; required for higher levels)
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing; able to work without direct supervision
  • Able to create, edit, or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents
  • Able to meet Clearway Energy Group’s Qualified Electrical Worker program requirements
  • For Level II: In-depth understanding of wind turbine components (electrical pitch system, computerized control system, power conversion unit) and OEM-approved mechanical maintenance methods; skills to perform mechanical and electrical repairs
  • Willingness to work flexible on-call schedule (weeknights, weekends, holidays)

Responsibilities

  • Follow safety procedures, observe safe working practices, and maintain safe working environment (all levels)
  • Assist in performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance (Level I); perform all such maintenance, repair, and replacement independently (Levels II & III)
  • Document all work performed, parts used, and time spent using computer-based service reporting procedures (Level I)
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repair of SCADA communication systems (Level I)
  • Operate and maintain a service vehicle (Level I)
  • Maintain hand tools in good working order and organized (Level I)
  • Work flexible on-call schedule including weeknights, weekends, and holidays (all levels)
  • Willingness to progress as technician and take guidance from superiors (Level I)
  • Help in all areas of site operations as directed by Site Lead and Site Manager with minimal supervision (Level I)
  • Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch, variable speed wind turbines (Levels II & III)
  • Assist in training and development of lower-level operation and maintenance personnel (Levels II & III)
  • Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams (Levels II & III)
  • Use electrical test equipment to assist in troubleshooting and testing (Levels II & III)
  • Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews as necessary (Levels II & III)
  • Safely perform LOTO and mentor lower-level technicians in LOTO (Levels II & III)
  • Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required (Levels II & III)
  • Other duties as assigned within respective level scope
