Requirements

  • Seasoned international trade compliance professional with great judgment and attention to detail
  • Comfortable making independent compliance decisions and consulting with a broader compliance team as needed
  • Ability to serve as the face of export control for German manufacturing operations
  • Experience interfacing with engineers, supply chain, IT, security, sales, local and international personnel, external counsel, and vendors
  • Knowledge of national and EU export control laws and regulations, including EU Dual-Use Regulation, German Foreign Trade Law (AWG/AWV), and War Weapons Control Act
  • Familiarity with BAFA expectations, EU-Commission, ELAN-K2 portal, German/EU General Authorizations, and U.S. re-export controls (e.g., EAR/ITAR)
  • Ability to work full-time in a hybrid role, requiring 3 days per week from the Berlin office or lab

Responsibilities

  • Serve as German Trade Compliance Officer (Ausfuhrverantwortlicher) and trusted advisor to Planet’s legal and business teams
  • In coordination with Planet’s US ITC team and Planet policy, ensure implementation of an effective Internal Compliance Programme (ICP) aligned with BAFA and EU-Commission expectations, adhering to national and EU export control laws
  • Serve as subject matter expert ensuring company activities comply with national and EU export control laws, including EU Dual-Use Regulation, German Foreign Trade Law (AWG/AWV), and War Weapons Control Act
  • Maintain Planet’s registration in ELAN-K2 portal and prepare/submit applications for individual and global authorizations
  • Identify and oversee compliant use of German or EU General Authorizations
  • Own full lifecycle/authorization management related to German/EU authorizations
  • Analyze/document German/EU classification analysis for Planet products and services, make licensing determinations, and track new technology developments
  • In consultation with US ITC team, ensure compliance with applicable U.S. re-export controls (e.g., EAR/ITAR)
  • Advise the business on international trade compliance requirements and develop strategic compliance plans to meet business objectives
