- Journeyman plumber certification or equivalent licensing
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
- Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting plumbing issues (leaks, clogs, pressure, faulty fixtures)
- Knowledge of local, state, and national plumbing codes, safety, and environmental regulations
- Experience operating power tools and specialized plumbing equipment (pipe threaders, soldering torches, cutting machines, leak detectors, augers, hydro-jetting)
- Skill in using measuring instruments for accurate pipe alignment and connections
- Ability to maintain tools, materials, and work vehicle
- Strong communication skills for interacting with contractors, engineers, building managers, clients, and apprentices
- Capability to provide estimates, document work, and complete permits/inspections/reports
Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and maintain pipes, fixtures, and plumbing systems in commercial buildings (water supply lines, drainage, gas lines, waste disposal)
- Assemble, install, and test plumbing fixtures (sinks, toilets, urinals, faucets, water heaters, pumps)
- Connect appliances (dishwashers, ice makers, boilers) to water supply lines
- Diagnose and troubleshoot leaks, clogs, pressure issues, and faulty fixtures; repair or replace valves, fittings, and pipes
- Clear drains and sewer lines using hand tools, augers, and hydro-jetting
- Test and inspect backflow prevention devices; repair or replace as needed
- Respond to emergency service calls and perform on-the-spot repairs
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance on plumbing systems (flush water heaters, test pressure, check leaks/corrosion)
- Inspect systems for code compliance and functionality; maintain/repair sump and booster pumps
- Ensure installations meet safety and environmental regulations; use proper PPE; maintain clean work environment
- Communicate with stakeholders, provide estimates, document work, and train/assist apprentices
