Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Information Technology, or a related field, and a minimum of 3 years of experience in technical writing, preferably within an IT or software environment. Familiarity with utilities industry systems such as SCADA, GIS, AMI, outage management, and ERP is a plus, along with proficiency in documentation tools like Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Confluence, SharePoint, MadCap Flare, or RoboHelp. A basic understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies is also required.
The Technical Writer will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining high-quality end-user documentation, including user manuals, software application guides, system operation procedures, and quick reference cards. They will collaborate with IT teams, business analysts, developers, and project managers to gather technical information and transform it into user-friendly documents. The role involves working closely with product and application support teams to document new features, processes, and tools, ensuring documentation aligns with internal standards and industry best practices, managing documentation versions, and conducting user interviews to assess usability. Additionally, the Technical Writer will create visual aids like screenshots and diagrams, assist in developing training materials and eLearning content, and manage documentation updates in sync with software and system changes.
