Requirements
- Hands-on experience with substation layout, equipment selection, protection and control systems, and integration with transmission and distribution systems
- Experience with high-voltage substation projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV
- Ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines, including civil, structural, and protection engineering
- Knowledge of NESC, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and utility standards
Responsibilities
- Develop substation physical and electrical designs, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, general arrangements, grounding, conduit, and control schematics
- Prepare design drawings, technical specifications, and bill of materials for new and retrofit substation projects
- Conduct equipment selection and specify transformers, circuit breakers, switches, buswork, relays, and other substation components
- Collaborate with Protection & Control Engineers to integrate relaying and communication systems
- Perform load flow, short circuit, and grounding studies as needed
- Ensure all engineering deliverables meet NESC, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and utility standards
- Coordinate with internal design teams, utilities, and contractors to ensure technical accuracy and constructability
- Participate in site visits to support design verification, construction, and commissioning
- Provide technical support during procurement, installation, and testing phases
- Maintain project schedules, budgets, and documentation per client and company requirements
