Staff Software Engineer - Risk Platform

  • Other States: $199,000 - $213,000 (Compensation commensurate with experience and internal leveling guidelines.)

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our Risk Platform team. This role is pivotal in spearheading the implementation of essential platforms and APIs that support business features within our risk management domain.

The Risk Platform team focuses on mitigating both credit and fraud risks. Our goal is to enhance app accessibility for customers while protecting against misuse and unauthorized access by identifying and preventing fraudulent activities across all core product areas.

Key Projects and Systems

You will have the opportunity to work on projects and systems such as:

  • Core Decision Platform: An end-to-end solution for enterprise decision management, encompassing business rule management, analytics, process management, and ML/AI.
  • Event Data Stream Ingestion: Supporting near real-time fraud rule setup.
  • Advanced A/B Testing and Experimentation: Enabling customers to leverage greedy algorithms and combat fraud.

Responsibilities

  • Build decision platform and machine learning solutions to respond to and mitigate business risks within Flex.
  • Design and develop high-scale, 24/7 APIs and distributed systems using Java and the Java Spring Boot framework on AWS.
  • Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering peers to launch new features across our web and mobile platforms.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience with Java.
  • 4+ years of experience with React or React Native.
  • 4+ years of experience with TypeScript.
  • Proven experience building high-quality mobile and web UIs according to specifications.
  • Proficiency in Java frameworks and tools used at Flex, including Spring (core/web/boot), Gradle, JUnit, and JVM (memory/performance tuning, GC).
  • Experience with Service-Oriented Architecture, REST APIs, Message Queues, and scalable architectures.
  • Experience with architectures and tools in the React Native and React ecosystems (Hooks, Components, Context, Redux).
  • Experience with AWS (EKS, Aurora RDS, Elasticache, DynamoDB) and containerization tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a risk engineering team and with decision platform architecture or risk/fraud detection systems.
  • Proficiency in CI/CD systems (preferably GitHub Actions), Git, and automation.
  • Skilled in observability and monitoring tools, such as DataDog, to ensure high availability.
  • Experience with big data platforms and tooling, including Snowflake.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code, using tools like CDK and Terraform.
  • Ability to elevate team standards through best practices and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in cross-functional collaboration.
