Thrive Market, founded in 2014, aims to make healthy and sustainable living accessible and affordable for everyone. As an online, membership-based market, we provide high-quality healthy and sustainable products at member-only prices, with a commitment to matching every paid membership with a free one for those in need. We utilize innovative technology and a member-centric approach to help our over 1,600,000+ members discover better products, support ethical brands, and contribute to a better world. Thrive Market is a Certified B Corporation, a Public Benefit Corporation, and a Climate Neutral Certified company. We are looking for individuals to join us in expanding healthy and sustainable living to millions of Americans.

The Product Engineering team collaborates with Product Managers and Feature teams to develop innovative solutions that enhance our e-commerce grocery experience. This team is instrumental in shaping the customer journey, from creating intuitive cart and checkout processes to optimizing our Autoship feature, similar to Amazon's Subscribe & Save. We are seeking a Staff Engineer to lead a pod within our product engineering organization. In this role, you will collaborate with skilled engineers to build impactful product features that delight our members and drive revenue. Your contributions will significantly influence how our customers shop, save, and engage with Thrive Market, making grocery shopping seamless and rewarding.

Responsibilities

  • Develop REST and JSON API services to support new customer experiences.
  • Decompose existing services into scalable microservices as needed.
  • Build horizontally scalable services that offer low uniform latency under increasing demand, utilizing appropriate tools (languages, databases, serverless, distributed streaming, etc.).
  • Work with Golang, Python, PHP, Java, AWS, and Kafka.
  • Implement test-driven development from the outset to protect customer experience and ensure speed and reliability in the development process.
  • Integrate meaningful metrics into new services and functionalities and promote their use.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues and restore functionality.
  • Work closely with the product team to innovate game-changing ideas for the customer.
  • Facilitate discussions on architecture and code design choices.
  • Enforce best practices and process adherence.
  • Elevate the team through strategic task planning and assignment, encouraging them to achieve higher standards.
  • Own the Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for APIs managed by their pod, understand current performance, and work with the team to improve by raising the bar.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in developing end-to-end, high-traffic, responsive, cross-platform websites.
  • Working knowledge of Linux, Relational & NoSQL databases, and serverless technologies.
  • Understanding of the trade-offs involved in architectural choices and various database technologies (e.g., Relational vs. Document vs. Wide Column).
  • Working knowledge of different AWS services.
