Responsibilities

  • Reviews, interprets, and dispenses prescriptions issued by physicians, ensuring patient confidentiality
  • Ensures compliance with company SOPs, policies, and all local, state, and federal regulatory requirements
  • Maintains quality assurance procedures, security of prescription medications, appropriate disposal, infection-control protocols, and a safe/clean working environment
  • Ensures accuracy of prescriptions, identifies inconsistencies, and initiates corrective actions
  • Follows up with staff and agencies to resolve and correct problems
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements process improvements and efficiencies
  • Manages all tasks and actions related to Schedule II medications prior to shipping
  • Manages work queues
  • Ensures functions performed by junior staff have been reviewed
  • Verifies preparation, labeling of pharmaceuticals, order entries, and charges
  • Acts as a resource for staff, providing guidance on processes, procedures, and regulations
  • Makes professional decisions regarding therapy management using query reports
  • Maintains pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory using Pharmacy Management software
  • Tracks patient data (name, prescribed medication, cost)
  • Runs reports for drug recalls to identify affected patients
  • Provides clinical consultation to internal personnel and patients on medications
  • Answers questions and provides information on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage
  • Resolves issues when patients are out of medication
  • Works with junior staff on pharmacy inventory maintenance
  • Removes outdated and damaged drugs from inventory
  • Provides recommendations to healthcare providers and patients; consults on OTC products, side effects, and dosages
  • Provides work direction to per diem or temporary staff as needed
  • Receives drug deliveries and signs invoices for controlled substances
  • Mentors other staff as applicable
  • Provides on-call services as required
  • Reviews and complies with Code of Business Conduct, company policies, and laws/regulations
  • Assists with various projects as assigned by supervisor
  • Performs other duties as assigned
