Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience building and architecting large-scale web applications with Ruby on Rails
  • Deep, up-to-date expertise in Ruby on Rails, including the latest features, patterns, and best practices
  • Proven track record of leading technical transformations or platform modernization in production environments
  • Experience with modularization, service boundaries, and evolving complex Rails systems
  • Significant experience designing, building, testing, and operating distributed systems in a SaaS environment, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance
  • Experience with technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Redis, MySQL, and modern observability and CI/CD tooling
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to partner effectively across multiple engineering teams
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and influence engineers at all levels
  • Experience as a technical leader or architect on platform or infrastructure teams, especially in high-growth SaaS environments (preferred)
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and modern Rails ecosystem gems (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of domain-driven design and strategies for incremental modernization (preferred)
  • Track record of enabling and supporting shared code ownership models (preferred)
  • Passion for building maintainable, scalable systems and empowering teams to move fast with confidence (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the organization’s foremost expert in Ruby on Rails, bringing the latest best practices, patterns, and innovations to our core web platform
  • Define and drive the technical architecture for our web platform, focusing on modularity, scalability, and maintainability using modern Rails patterns and tools
  • Identify opportunities to evolve our platform architecture, leveraging the latest Rails features, gems, and community standards to improve developer experience and system performance
  • Partner closely with domain teams to understand their needs, provide technical guidance, and ensure seamless integration of new features and improvements
  • Establish and promote guidelines for high-quality, maintainable Rails code, automated testing, and CI/CD
  • Mentor engineers across the organization, lead technical discussions, and create training materials to elevate Rails expertise company-wide
  • Act as a key liaison between platform and domain teams, facilitating clear communication, driving consensus, and ensuring alignment on technical direction
  • Stay current with the Ruby on Rails ecosystem, proactively introducing new tools, techniques, and patterns to keep our platform at the forefront of modern web development
