Candidates must have an advanced level of experience with MariaDB or MySQL database administration, including complex replication topologies at scale. Advanced proficiency in SQL and query/schema optimization is required, along with experience debugging query performance and schema design. Experience with high traffic and highly available website architectures, MySQL high availability and replication management tooling, and Linux/IO/data storage concepts is necessary. A minimum of 6 years of hands-on DBA experience as part of a team, solid English language skills, and the ability to travel 1-2 times a year are also required. Candidates should possess the ability to work independently and effectively within a globally distributed team, utilizing ticket tracking and asynchronous communication tools. A B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience, is necessary. Proficiency in automation/programming/scripting (Python) and standard software development practices, experience with SRE practices and tooling, experience with LAMP stack technologies, experience with other advanced distributed storage and database systems, and a strong track record of open source contributions are considered a plus.
The Staff Database Administrator will ensure the health and performance of production relational database systems and the integrity of their data. Responsibilities include deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting database systems, designing, implementing, and automating replication topologies, and consulting on database schema and query design. The role involves monitoring, debugging, and optimizing database query performance, improving the observability of database infrastructure, and performing capacity and infrastructure planning. The administrator will contribute to the automation of database management workflows, enable reliable database backups and timely restoration, and maintain relationships with MariaDB upstream projects. Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation for incident response, diagnosis, and follow-up on system outages is also a key responsibility.
