Requirements

Seasoned litigation attorney with significant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation
Academic credentials, strong analytical skills, and legal acumen for successful litigation work
Requisite trial advocacy skills to independently handle matters as lead counsel or as part of a team
Ability to maintain a highly productive case volume with efficiency, proactive case management, strong work ethic, and high-quality work product in accordance with Nationwide Trial Division (NTD) standard methodology guidelines, claims, and client expectations
Requires minimal managerial oversight and guidance from the Managing Trial Attorney and NTD Leadership
Adept at effectively utilizing technology and collaboratively working with support staff for efficient case management
Consistent awareness of changes to the law, technology, local rules, procedural requirements, and other aspects of the legal and insurance industries impacting litigation strategies in assigned jurisdictions
Subject matter expertise and trial advocacy skills for all NTD concentrations held (e.g., Personal and Commercial Auto, Premises Liability, Products Liability, Property Damage, Trucking Defense, Wrongful Death, NY Labor Law), with ability and willingness to develop additional concentrations as needed
Ability to provide factually, legally, and analytically sound opinions on case valuations, promptly updated and timely communicated to clients and claims
Ability to independently establish and maintain strong professional relationships with key associates in the Office of the Chief Legal Officer, claims partners at senior director level and below, and colleagues in the legal and insurance industries within assigned jurisdictions and communities
Experience with caseloads including a mix of cases varying in complexity, severity, product lines, and specialized concentrations across all courts and agencies in assigned jurisdictions (e.g., Elmsford, NY or Garden City, NY)

Responsibilities

Demonstrate trial advocacy skills independently as lead counsel or as part of a team, handling all matters efficiently per NTD guidelines, claims, and client expectations
Utilize technology and collaborate with support staff for efficient case management
Stay aware of changes in law, technology, rules, and industry aspects impacting litigation strategies
Perform with subject matter expertise in NTD concentrations and develop new ones as required
Provide sound, updated case valuation opinions communicated timely to clients and claims
Establish and maintain professional relationships with key associates, claims partners, and industry colleagues to build NTD's reputation and expand case referrals
Communicate in a highly effective manner
Represent clients under commercial and personal lines insurance policies independently as lead counsel or as part of a team
Manage a mix of cases varying in complexity, severity, product lines, and concentrations throughout assigned jurisdictions
