The Sr. Trade Compliance Specialist will report into the Director of Logistics and Compliance. This role involves applying the correct classification of merchandise via the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States, reviewing customs regulations, and ensuring product compliance with various governmental regulations.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years related experience
  • LCB Certification: Not required, but a plus
  • Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of construction and operation of various products (electronics, tools, apparel, toys, etc.)
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Must have working knowledge of 19 CFR US customs regulations and the HTSUSA
  • Software Skills: Intermediate knowledge of Outlook, Excel, Word, and personal computer software packages.
  • Other Skills: Excellent decision-making ability, sound reasoning and analytical skills, ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all related activity to apply the correct classification of merchandise via the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States.
  • Review customs and other government websites to stay on top of current events as they relate to imports and product related safety laws, including federal and state related consumer safety protection requirements.
  • Assist in the update of CTPAT compliance activities.
  • Utilize ACE systems to perform audits.
  • Maintain HTSUS and duty updates from quotas/tariffs/etc. in spreadsheet/database.
  • Review entry variances caught during the accounting audit and approve/amend entries as necessary while managing workflow approvals.
  • Limit the number of PSC’s (Post Summary Corrections) filed by initiating a timely audit on 7501 Compliance.
  • Provide guidance to buyers/planners on necessary regulatory processes.
  • Work with testing labs to create test protocols for different product categories and maintain protocols to ensure updates when regulations change.
  • Liaison with external labs to validate and develop proper testing protocols.
  • Review product and identify necessary regulatory compliance including testing, certifications, special handling, etc.

Schedule Requirements

  • Full time, five 8.5 hour days
  • Fixed schedule
  • Ability to work extended hours, including occasional Saturdays, in order to meet individual and departmental deadlines, as necessitated by the workflow.
  • Must be able to maintain an excellent attendance record.
