About the Role

The Kora Global team is at the forefront of re-imagining Apache Kafka as a cloud-native, serverless, multi-tenant data platform at scale. You will contribute to building the next generation of Kafka by pushing the boundaries of distributed system design. Our team specifically focuses on critical elements of Confluent's global replication infrastructure, including Cluster Linking, Multi-Region Cluster (MRC), and Confluent Replicator, while also developing future global replication technologies. These advancements empower customers to deploy and manage Confluent clusters across multiple regions for enhanced high availability and disaster recovery.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Kora Global team, you will be responsible for developing and enhancing Confluent's global replication offerings. You will play a key role in driving technical solutions end-to-end, collaborating closely with the team and stakeholders to design, architect, and build high-quality solutions. This role involves working on the highly available, reliable, secure, scalable, and multi-tenant aspects of Kora's orchestration layer.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve Confluent's global replication offerings.
• Drive technical solutions end-to-end, from design to implementation.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other team members.
• Design, architect, and develop robust solutions for highly available, reliable, secure, scalable, and multi-tenant systems.
• Address challenging customer problems and deliver complex projects with a focus on quality.
• Identify root causes of issues and implement lasting solutions.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 2-3+ years of relevant experience in cloud infrastructure and/or SaaS/PaaS services.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development.
• Experience building and operating large-scale systems in the Cloud.
• Solid understanding of basic systems operations (disk, network, operating systems, etc.).
• Self-starter with the ability to work effectively in teams.
• Proficiency in Java, Scala, C/C++, Go, or other statically typed languages.

What Gives You an Edge

• In-depth familiarity with the JVM.
• Strong background in distributed storage systems or databases.
• Experience/knowledge with public clouds (AWS, Azure, or GCP), Kubernetes, and microservices.
• Interest in technical evangelism (giving talks, writing blog posts).
• Experience working on multi-region databases or data storage.
