Position Overview

Dealer Inspire, a Cars.com company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Websites & Inventory team. This role focuses on enhancing existing backend services, troubleshooting and optimizing current systems, and building scalable, secure, and reliable API-based backend services that power the Dealer Inspire platform. The Websites Vehicle Inventory is the core of the Dealer Inspire website platform, providing data for all products.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a lead engineer to design and develop high-performance, API-based backend services that meet service level objectives (SLOs) and scale to support significant traffic.
  • Enhance existing backend services, troubleshoot issues, and optimize current systems for performance and reliability.
  • Build scalable, secure, and reliable API-based backend services that power the Dealer Inspire platform.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on best practices, code quality, and system architecture to foster a collaborative and high-performing development team.
  • Utilize architecture patterns and iterative approaches to improve legacy services.
  • Contribute to hands-on coding and the design of backend services that meet evolving product requirements.
  • Ensure the quality and reliability of systems through testing, observability, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Leverage Kubernetes and containerized services for optimized deployment, scalability, and resilience.

Requirements

  • Experienced, results-driven software engineer with a strong foundation in building scalable and reliable backend systems.
  • Proficiency in designing and developing API-based services capable of handling high traffic volumes while ensuring performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Solid understanding of software architecture and engineering best practices.
  • Ability to make technical decisions that balance speed, quality, and long-term stability.
  • Experience with architecture patterns and iterative approaches for improving legacy services.
  • Comfortable with both hands-on coding and designing backend services.
  • Understanding of the importance of testing, observability, and CI/CD pipelines.
