Senior Manager, Subscription Revenue Accounting

Position Overview
Smartsheet is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager of Subscription Revenue Accounting to lead the accurate processing and close of subscription services revenue. This role involves overseeing a team, collaborating with various departments, and ensuring compliance with ASC 606. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a deep understanding of revenue recognition principles and a passion for developing teams.
Responsibilities
- Revenue Recognition Expertise: Serve as an expert in ASC 606 for subscription services revenue, ensuring all customer contracts are accounted for completely and in compliance with applicable guidance.
- Close Process Management: Lead the monthly close process related to revenue accounting for subscriptions.
- Internal Controls: Implement and operate internal controls, recommending updates as needed to improve processes. Partner with the Head of Internal Audit to consider process improvements and test controls.
- Workpaper Review: Perform monthly reviews of revenue accounting workpapers, fostering a process that delivers high-quality documentation.
- Process Improvement: Implement processes that minimize the potential for error.
- Team Development: Develop, coach, and retain team members as the company grows.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Establish and develop cross-functional relationships with key stakeholders in Finance, Legal, Revenue Accounting, Financial Operations, and other departments.
- Internal Controls Compliance: Oversee internal controls compliance, including updating process narratives, risk identification, design, implementation, and ongoing operation of key control activities for subscription revenue accounting. Ensure team members understand their roles and responsibilities related to Internal Controls.
Requirements
- Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in accounting, with a strong emphasis on ASC 606 revenue accounting.
- 5+ years of people management experience.
- SOX experience is required (obtained through public accounting or a publicly traded company).
- Certifications: Current CPA certification.
- Skills:
- Proven ability to coach and manage teams.
- Comfort working in an organization that values deadlines.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and collaborate effectively with various departments.
- Knowledge of ERP systems (preferably NetSuite).
