Requirements

  • B.S. in a relevant engineering field
  • Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Experience performing aerodynamics and performance analysis to evaluate new concepts and refine existing concepts
  • Experience performing analysis on VTOL aircraft (preferred)
  • Experience with innovative, physics-based aerodynamics analysis and design methods
  • Understanding of aerodynamics engineering fundamentals, especially with regards to an aircraft
  • Capability to assess the aerodynamics and performance of vertical lift aircraft through analysis, test, and a combination of the two
  • Experience with rotorcraft or fixed-wing performance analysis techniques that builds on applicable educational experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactively communicate and follow-up
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
  • Self-motivated and forward-thinking personality
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Handle the design, analysis, and testing of aerodynamics for vehicles at different stages of development
  • Conduct aerodynamic design of the airframe and rotor systems in collaboration with Configuration, Structures, Dynamic Systems, and other critical contributors
  • Collaborate with the broader engineering team to conduct multi-disciplinary trade studies to guide design decisions
  • Coordinate and conduct aerodynamic testing – including wind tunnel testing, flight testing, and other testing as applicable
  • Support test procedure development and test execution, and maintain responsibility for crew and test article safety by monitoring and assessing aerodynamics and performance characteristics
  • Evaluate component test and vehicle test data, using empirical data to apply improvements to analytical predictions and modeling
  • Support requirement verification activities in various engineering subject areas
  • Develop engineering tools to complete engineering tasks associated with the Supernal concepts
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Support air vehicle design, ground tests, and flight tests with aerodynamics performance design and analysis
  • Interface regularly with the Airframe, VMS, Powertrain, Intelligent Systems, and other groups within Flight Technology
