Requirements

Candidates should have 5+ years of experience in software development, with 1–3+ years in a technical leadership or engineering management role, strong technical skills in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node, and AWS, and proven ability to lead teams building production-grade applications. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, along with a demonstrated experience in growing engineers and building healthy team dynamics. A deep understanding of software development fundamentals, system design, and modern web architectures is also necessary.

Responsibilities

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and support a team of engineers working across the stack on Spellbook’s AI-powered application, partnering closely with product management, design, and leadership to shape and execute the engineering roadmap. You will be hands-on in the code and in the strategy, setting direction, guiding implementation, and making key decisions that balance product innovation with system scalability and reliability. You will mentor and grow engineers through feedback, coaching, and career development support, champion a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and ownership, ensure product quality, performance, and reliability through architectural guidance, operational excellence, and rigorous testing, and use LLMs from OpenAI, Anthropic, and others to enhance workflows for legal teams, driving innovation through applied AI.
