Requirements

  • Rust Experience: Strong experience with Rust is highly desirable.
  • Python Experience: Experience with Python is required.
  • Open Source Experience: Experience with open source projects is beneficial.
  • Developer Tools Experience: Experience with developer tools is a plus.
  • Community Engagement: Willingness to be an open source maintainer (reviewing pull requests, debugging issues, contributing to community).

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of uv, an extremely fast Python package and project manager written in Rust.
  • Work on both low-level optimization and high-level user experience design.
  • Engage with the open source community – reviewing pull requests, debugging issues, and contributing to the project's culture.
  • Participate in asynchronous collaboration through tools like Discord, GitHub, and Notion.
  • Complete a take-home project to demonstrate technical skills.
  • Present personal work and engage in technical discussions.

Application Instructions

  • The hiring process is entirely remote and does not include live coding segments.
  • It consists of three phases:
    1. Take-home Project: Build a command-line tool based on a pre-defined specification.
    2. Presentation: Present personal work and engage in technical discussions.
  • The team is distributed globally, covering Pacific Time (e.g., San Francisco, USA) to Central European Time (e.g., Munich, Germany).
  • Twice-yearly in-person on-sites are held.
