Position Overview

Alloy Automation is an integration development platform used by leading companies to launch SaaS integrations quickly. As the demand for integrations grows, Alloy Automation provides a solution to the slow and painful in-house integration building process.

We are seeking a Software Engineer in Test to lead the transformation of our testing and software shipping processes. This role involves not only writing automated tests but also driving a culture of test-driven development (TDD), championing QA best practices, and building a reliable, automated testing pipeline. The successful candidate will have a direct impact on product quality, bug reduction, and development velocity, enabling scalable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Design test strategies and build automated test frameworks for backend, frontend, and integration testing.
  • Collaborate with engineers to transition from manual QA reliance to automated, self-service testing.
  • Partner with the Head of Engineering & Product to drive test-driven development (TDD), writing tests alongside feature code.
  • Identify and implement scalable solutions to improve test coverage, reliability, and product quality.
  • Own and maintain CI/CD test pipelines, ensuring fast, repeatable, and reliable test runs.
  • Coach and mentor the engineering team on writing testable code and integrating tests into daily workflows.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Support, SRE, and other Engineers to finalize requirements, identify use cases, and enhance test effectiveness.
  • Define and track quality metrics, providing insights and process improvements to the team.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in software test automation, QA engineering, or a similar role.
  • Strong hands-on experience building automated test suites (unit, integration, end-to-end) using modern languages and frameworks (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Python).
  • Expertise with common test automation tools (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, Jest, Mocha, Pytest).
  • Experience working within CI/CD environments (e.g., GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins).
  • Passion for automation and reducing manual overhead.
  • Curiosity and a drive to explore, uncover unknowns, and deviate from standard approaches to find issues.
  • Strong coaching and collaboration skills, with a desire to help engineers improve their testing practices.
  • Proactive and pragmatic approach, focusing automation efforts where they will have the most impact.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of product quality, a bias for action, and a commitment to shipping robust, well-tested code.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment and contributing to process shaping.
