Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree required (preference for Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology; preference for Masters/PhD)
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with a B.S
  • Basic understanding of testing, testing equipment, good laboratory practices, and department metrics
  • Proficient use of common laboratory test equipment
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs
  • 1st shift position but may require face-to-face communication with 2nd and 3rd shift lab staff on occasion
  • Travel up to 10%

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct performance and lifecycle testing on assigned projects and products
  • Act as the testing representative and primary technical point of contact between the Test Lab and the Product Development team
  • Determine test protocols, screen design concepts and testing methods, coordinate testing with other lab equipment, and work towards delivering on project due dates
  • Coordinate other lab staff to contribute to testing, including through 2nd and 3rd shifts
  • Assist project teams with insightful feedback, hands-on test protocol development, and proactive planning to ensure reliable product testing
  • Ensure testing needs are well thought out and proactively involve supporting groups (e.g., Metrology, Quality, CAE, Test Operations) before testing
  • Assist design groups and internal customers from research start to final verification testing
  • Aid in selecting test equipment, protocol development, test set-up, and test execution
  • Design, develop, and implement high-quality test systems customized to the product being tested
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of good laboratory practices, testing standards, procedures, statistical knowledge, and laboratory safety practices
  • Communicate proactively and effectively as the key contact between stakeholders and the lab
  • Assist with formulation of test guidelines and procedures; recommend revisions of specifications where necessary
  • Evaluate, recommend, and maintain engineering-related test systems
  • Assist Test Lab management with priorities, scheduling, and technician training for allocated projects
