Requirements

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field OR equivalent experience
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, designing and building space-flight hardware
  • Strong mechanical design skills related to mechanisms, packaging, high-load environments, and user interface
  • Familiarity with CAD software
  • Creative package design experience to meet a range of customer needs
  • Comfortable with all aspects of a program, taking a design from concept through launch
  • Typically 6+ years applicable experience (open to experience in fields other than aerospace)
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • This position is onsite at Inversion HQ in Playa Vista, CA
  • U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State (ITAR Compliance)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a multipurpose reentry vehicle payload bay
  • Work with the engineering team, business development, and mission management to come up with ideas to accommodate payloads for a range of missions, both commercial and defense-related
  • Research potential payloads
  • Design payload bay concepts
  • Define environmental loading
  • Pursue the design through manufacture, test, and launch
