Requirements

Candidates must possess a Master's degree or higher in an Engineering discipline or Computer Science and have at least 7 years of relevant professional experience in System Safety or Systems Engineering. Experience performing hazard analysis using methods such as System Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP), or Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA) is required. Proficiency in probability and statistics is essential, along with strong written and in-person communication skills. Bonus qualifications include experience with autonomous driving systems and hands-on experience with industry safety standards like ISO 26262, ISO 21448, and DO-178.

Responsibilities

The Senior/Staff Systems Engineer will contribute to the definition, development, and evolution of the Safety Case for Zoox technology, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, particularly the AI software team. They will perform hazard analysis using System-theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) to identify potential safety issues and inform test scenarios. The engineer will also conduct probabilistic risk assessments to quantify safety risks, identify and manage safety requirements, and ensure end-to-end traceability while producing a closed-loop Safety Case.
