Candidates should have 4+ years of related professional experience, including experience building and maintaining large-scale applications. Proficiency in PHP, Javascript, and relational databases is required, along with a strong foundation in security principles. Experience driving cross-team objectives and user/product impact is also necessary. A Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in computer science, management information systems, or a STEM field (or equivalent certification) is preferred. Familiarity with abuse fighting, security concerns, open-source contributions, and content management systems is a plus.
The Senior Software Engineer will proactively develop and maintain tools to identify, mitigate, and prevent abuse across Wikimedia projects. They will design privacy-conscious systems for abuse detection, adapt strategies based on evolving standards, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to create human-centered solutions. Responsibilities also include writing resilient, maintainable code, implementing observability for system stability, and measuring the impact of anti-abuse measures.
