Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.

As a member of the News & Entertainment Engineering team, you will build and support the tools, services, and distribution APIs that deliver content to our products, including NationalGeographic.com, Marvel.com, and the highly rated Marvel Unlimited digital comics app. We are looking for a passionate, impactful technologist who seeks to bring the best out in themselves and those around them—someone who can provide a fresh perspective and innovative insight to our initiatives. You will be a great fit for our team if you enjoy collaborating with product managers, frontend engineers, and fellow backend engineers to design and implement high-throughput experiences. Responsibilities

• Participate in the design and implementation of multi-layered systems delivering high throughput consumer-facing experiences.
• Collaborate & troubleshoot with the rest of the team in the analysis and resolution of hard engineering problems involving high-trafficked web application services and APIs.
• Oversee service performance, scalability, and event planning requirements.
• Provide guidance and enforcement of development practices and processes.
• Review code and work with junior engineers to ensure product and design specifications are met.
• Research, learn, and evangelize widespread adoption of new technologies and architecture patterns.
• Influence and contribute to department technical strategy and planning.

Requirements

• BS in Computer Science or related technical discipline and 5+ years relevant industry experience, or 11+ years equivalent engineering experience without a BS degree in a technical field.
• Proven Experience with Java and open-source technologies like Spring, Tomcat, MySQL, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Redis, GraphQL, etc.
• Demonstrated proficiency in developing high volume, cached, fault-tolerant, multi-threaded scalable systems.
• Exposure to the full lifecycle of application development, including best practices of unit testing, code reviews, and documentation.
