  • Ability to establish novel techniques
  • Knowledge of photography, composition, lighting, colour, and motion
  • Specific knowledge of layering math and trade-offs of filtering techniques in relation to sharpness and noise/grain
  • Solid understanding of image pipeline from capture to delivery, including practical use (e.g., concatenating transforms, colour corrections)

Responsibilities

  • Attends dailies and follows up with team lead regarding their notes, fixes, etc
  • Works with broad stroke notes and defines looks for key events and shots
  • Hits given notes but is proactive in offering suggestions and alternate approaches
  • Consistent preparation with visual reference on hand when seeking feedback
  • Gives artistic feedback to other Roto artists
  • May assist in creating generic scripts and templates to be used by other artists
  • Self-proficient in task estimation for production and scheduling
  • Works across departmental lines to develop techniques and efficiencies for assigned shots and potentially sequences
  • Balances own shot work and active mentoring of less-experienced artists
  • Consistently pushes for productivity enhancements in current pipeline and work practices
  • Works with management and show supervision to maintain strong morale, flag communication issues, and escalate problems to appropriate show lead or HOD
  • Helps others to troubleshoot shots and set ups
  • Takes ownership of the work and is proactive about offering solutions, efficiencies, and “pluses” for look and technique
  • Keeps abreast of current trends and tools being used in house and across the industry for respective discipline
  • May be tasked with organising shows and tells to share tips and tricks among the team
  • Mentors and provides feedback for more junior members, including helping with performance reviews
  • Mentors other artists in leadership and teaching skills
  • May be asked to assist in the QCing of artist or vendor reviews
  • Delivers high level Paint and Roto tasks with minimal supervision
