Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and CPA required
  • 7+ years of accounting experience with Big Four public accounting experience preferred
  • 3+ years of people management experience which includes effective leadership, delegation, and development of high performing accounting teams
  • Displays effective communication and leadership skills
  • Well-versed in technical accounting documentation and providing support for financial statement audit
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and US GAAP with experience in public accounting and/or public company experience
  • Skilled in solving problems and making decisions
  • Skilled in sharing information with others and facilitating the open exchange of ideas and information
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, very organized and detail-oriented
  • Thrives on process improvement, clean documentation, and enjoys working in a challenging, fast-paced environment
  • Self-starter excited to apply knowledge to strengthen processes

Responsibilities

  • Oversee complex accounting transactions and related projects
  • Ensure high risk accounts are properly accounted for
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a high performing team of accountants (general ledger team of 2-3 staff including accruals, accounts payable, equity, taxes, and capitalized software)
  • Set clear goals with team and align efforts with organizational objectives
  • Foster open, honest, and respectful communication
  • Monitor team performance, assist with removing roadblocks, provide support, and model accountability and professionalism
  • Make independent, informed, data-driven decisions
  • Manage conflicts effectively and resolve issues proactively
  • Work closely with FP&A, Content, Technology, and Legal teams to improve day-to-day accounting processes and documentation
  • Conduct technical accounting research and maintain/update accounting policies
  • Report directly to the Controller
  • Lead research and evaluation of transactions, legal contracts, business practices, new/modified accounting guidance, and policies for compliance
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation for accuracy and efficiency
  • Interact with external auditors on accounting issues and support annual audit
  • Prepare/update technical accounting memos and process walkthroughs (e.g., capitalized software, stock-based compensation, purchase price accounting)
  • Provide insightful variance analysis and explain drivers of results to finance leadership and stakeholders
  • Draft original footnote disclosures for financial statements
