Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant experience (Computer Science or Computer Engineering preferred)
  • 5+ years of relevant and practical experience in infrastructure management, network administration, or system engineering
  • Proficiency in SQL Server architecture including configuration, clustering, replication, Always On availability groups, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Proficiency in database performance tuning and optimization such as query optimization, index management, execution plan analysis, and resolving blocking/deadlocks
  • Experience with cloud-based databases and services such as AWS RDS, GCP CloudSQL or AzureSQL
  • Proficiency in Windows Server environments and integration with Active Directory
  • Hands-on experience with upgrading and patching SQL Server instances across multiple versions
  • Proficiency in t-sql scripting and automation (Powershell or Python is a plus)
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Experience in mentoring junior team members
  • Strategic thinking and decision-making capabilities
  • Leadership skills in guiding junior team members and providing technical mentorship

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design, implementation, and maintenance of complex database systems
  • Ensure database performance, availability, and security at an advanced level
  • Plan and execute database upgrades, migrations, and integrations
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and foster a collaborative environment
  • Host sessions with cross-functional teams to review performance analysis, capacity planning, and optimization of database systems to ensure high availability and performance
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect database systems from potential threats and vulnerabilities
  • Manage and optimize cloud-based database services like AWS, GCP, or Azure to ensure cost-effectiveness and scalability
  • Automate infrastructure deployment, configuration, and monitoring processes using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet
  • Perform other assigned job-related duties that align with the organization’s vision, mission, and values and fall within scope of practice
