Alma is seeking a mission-driven Full Stack Engineer with a strong focus on backend development to join their team. This role involves building features that address real problems for clients seeking care, emphasizing communication, experimentation, and iteration in software development. The engineer will play a significant role in defining Alma's features, services, and architecture, collaborating with others and leveraging their full-stack capabilities to create exceptional digital experiences.

Requirements

  • 4-7 years of experience as an engineer with a proven history of working across the stack and building products at scale.
  • Extensive experience with web technologies, including experience with one or more common web frameworks.
  • Understanding of accessibility and security compliance.
  • Understanding of observability and monitoring best practices.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git.
  • Experience with customer-centered software development and close collaboration with engineers, designers, and product managers.
  • Desire to experiment, iterate, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Experience working with junior engineers and providing mentorship.
  • Experience leading medium to large size projects, including problem architecture/solutioning, task breakdown, and progress tracking.
  • Ability to accurately communicate expectations with stakeholders.
  • Champions best practices.

Responsibilities

  • 50%: Work across the stack, supporting complex initiatives in both the front and backend based on team needs.
  • 30%: Plan complex projects with stakeholders and guide execution and delivery.
  • 15%: Own team quality practices and drive improvements.
  • 5%: Mentor other team members on big-picture thinking, long-term support plans, and building scalable, maintainable code.

How You'll Do It

  • Gain a deep understanding of Alma clients, providers, and Insurance partners, their operations, and pain points.
  • Design, develop, and implement maintainable and scalable product features using modern web technologies (React, Typescript, Python, Django, MySQL).
  • Develop internal and provider-facing tools and features related to insurance eligibility and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Alma managers, PMs, and designers to conceptualize and build solutions.
  • Ensure applications and services meet Alma's standards for software, including performance, scalability, and security.
