Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in piping layout, design and/or engineering in the petrochemical industry, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Proficiency in design review software like SmartPlant Review and Navisworks
  • Strong knowledge of piping codes and standards (ASME, ANSI, API, and PIP)
  • Proficiency in material identification and selection
  • Strong knowledge of Caesar II and pipe stress analysis reports for all common systems of piping
  • Experience with LNG projects is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of AIV and FIV principles and screening is preferred
  • Proficiency in development of piping material class specifications is preferred
  • Strong knowledge in NDE and testing requirements of piping systems is preferred
  • Proficiency in valve application and specification is preferred
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor teams
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the entire piping scope on assigned projects, including work done in overseas offices
  • Responsible for all subsections of the piping discipline including stress analysis, material specification, design and material take-off
  • Develop, oversee, and ensure adherence to project timelines, budgets, and deliverables
  • Track and report progress during project execution
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify scope and objectives
  • Provide guidance on complex piping systems using best engineering practices
  • Review piping layouts, isometrics, and 3D models as well as the work performed by overseas offices
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, standards, codes (ASME, API), and best practices
  • Conduct stress analysis, material selection, and pipe routing optimization
  • Provide procurement support for piping items (specialty items, pipe supports, valves, etc.)
  • Ensure the check and release of various piping deliverables/documents for use by downstream parties
  • Supervise, mentor and provide guidance to junior designers and drafters
  • Conduct regular design reviews and ensure alignment across disciplines
  • Foster a collaborative and efficient team environment
  • Liaise with other engineering disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, process safety) to ensure seamless integration of piping systems
  • Review and approve vendor drawings
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOP studies, and project presentations
  • Address technical queries and manage design changes effectively
  • Implement quality control measures and conduct regular design audits
  • Ensure deliverables meet project and regulatory standards
  • Address any issues or risks that could impact project delivery
