Your Role at Baxter

We are seeking a Sr AI Engineer (Data Scientist) to contribute to the growth, development, and implementation of data products supporting Baxter's Connected Solutions portfolio.

Your Team

This role is part of the Innovation, Strategy, and Data Science team within the Digital Platform and Innovation group. This team is responsible for bringing data science and machine learning concepts to life at Baxter.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Predictive and Generative AI Modeling:
    • Develop and implement predictive modeling algorithms and techniques to address unmet needs, solve customer/business problems, and optimize user experiences.
    • Conduct in-depth research on AI advancements, exploring opportunities to integrate predictive and generative AI models into products and services.
    • Formulate problem statements and hypotheses for diverse business challenges, including clinical, operational, and business process optimization.
    • Create Spark & Python code in Databricks to extract data from disparate sources and generate innovative, actionable insights.
    • Prepare data for effective model training.
    • Develop, train, and evaluate predictive AI models using various methods tailored to specific problems.
    • Continuously refine and optimize models for performance, scalability, and efficiency.
    • Deploy models into production environments and monitor their performance.
    • Identify opportunities where generative AI models can add value.
    • Explore and experiment with generative models (e.g., GPT) for suitable applications.
    • Train and evaluate generative models, fine-tuning parameters for desired outputs.
    • Integrate generative models into production workflows or applications.
  • Data Handling and Analysis:
    • Work with datasets of varying sizes and complexities, including structured and unstructured data.
    • Implement batch and real-time model scoring to drive actions.
    • Develop sophisticated visualizations of analysis outputs for various users.
    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of current predictive modeling algorithms.
  • Innovation and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Innovate and engage with key technology stakeholders to create a compelling vision for a data-driven enterprise environment and its impact on their teams, projects, and outcomes.

What You'll Bring

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) or a similar quantitative analytics field.
  • Experience:
    • 4+ years of professional experience in developing and implementing a variety of data products, data science models, and algorithms in production.
    • Software development experience.
    • Experience with healthcare data and working in a HIPAA-regulated environment is preferred.
    • Experience with varying database structures and large datasets is preferred.
    • Experience with modern data science tools, with a primary stack including Spark, Scala, Python, and Databricks.
    • Experience in Microsoft Azure cloud environment is preferred.
    • Proficiency in developing data visualization technologies and capabilities (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Skills & Attributes:
    • A drive for creatively applying pragmatic and scalable approaches to Machine Learning to solve difficult problems affecting patients and providers.
    • Passion for working on a high-performance team.
